A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy is private insurance that helps pay some of the costs Original Medicare doesn’t, such as deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments. It works only with Original Medicare, not with Medicare Advantage. The best time to buy is usually your one-time Medigap Open Enrollment Period. Wellcovered Insurance, a licensed independent agency in Orange City, compares Medigap policies from the companies we represent.
We do not offer every plan available in your area. Please contact Medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE to get information on all of your options.

What Medigap covers
Medigap plans are standardized and labeled with letters (Plans A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, and N). Plans with the same letter have the same basic benefits no matter which company sells them. What differs between companies is mainly price and service. Depending on the plan, Medigap can help pay:
- Part A coinsurance and hospital costs
- Part B coinsurance or copayments (Part B generally charges 20% of the Medicare-approved amount after the deductible)
- Blood, skilled nursing facility coinsurance, and hospice coinsurance
- Some plans: the Part A deductible, Part B excess charges, and foreign travel emergency care
Plans C and F are not available to people who became newly eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020.

What Medigap does not do
- It does not include prescription drug coverage. You would add a separate Part D plan.
- It cannot be used with a Medicare Advantage plan.
- It generally does not cover long-term care, vision, dental, or hearing aids.
When to buy: your Medigap Open Enrollment Period
Your Medigap Open Enrollment Period is a one-time window. It does not repeat every year like Medicare’s fall Open Enrollment. During this window, companies cannot deny you or charge more because of your health. After it ends, you may not be able to buy a policy, or it may cost more, unless you have a guaranteed issue right. Ask us how this applies to your situation.

If you still have employer coverage
If you or your spouse are still working and covered by an employer plan, you may be able to delay some Medicare decisions. Whether that is a good idea depends on the employer’s size and how your plan coordinates with Medicare. Talk with us before you drop or delay coverage.
